Targeted Skill Workshops are designed for students who do not need "more math" in general-they need focused help in specific areas that keep holding them back. Instead of revisiting an entire course, we zero in on priority skills such as fractions, linear equations, inequalities, systems, geometry basics, or word problem strategies.
Each workshop centers around one clearly defined concept or cluster of skills. We begin by uncovering where the breakdown happens: Is it vocabulary, computation, setting up the problem, or staying organized through multiple steps? From there, we provide direct instruction, worked examples, and guided practice that tackle that barrier head-on. Students work in a small group setting, which creates a powerful mix of support and accountability. They see multiple ways to approach the same question, hear the kinds of questions others are asking, and realize that struggling with a topic is normal-and fixable. We maintain a calm, encouraging environment where learners feel safe to say, "I don't get this yet," and stay with the problem until it clicks.
These workshops are especially useful before unit tests, during challenging chapters, or over school breaks when you want to address a persistent weak spot without committing to a full course. Parents often enroll children who are otherwise doing "okay" in class but repeatedly lose points on the same type of question. By the end of a Targeted Skill Workshop, students walk away with clearer notes, reliable step-by-step methods, and renewed confidence in one key area of math. Most importantly, they experience what it feels like to conquer a concept that once seemed out of reach-an experience that carries into every future challenge they meet.
